Why Do People Use Internet Dating Sites?

This week’s question is a good one. Let’s have a look:

Question: Why Do People Use Internet Dating Sites?
Answer: I was just checking them out to see what all the buzz was and to get my friend to do it since she kept saying she would. Then I got a few bites… and well, it is just practice… I am not a dot commer or anything.

For the working professionals that don't have time to go to bars or out using dating sites to search for someone is ideal. Plus if you are a super picky person you get to "weed out" the people you know for sure you would never go out with.

i don't think its just to find a date i reckon they do this to find someone to talk to,a new friend. i don't think they are hard up, just in search of something they haven't found yet and these dating sites are their first steps. unlike some of these others i have heard from on the net these ones on dating sites i guess have more of a heart cause they are willing to put it out there

there are a lot of fish out there, but sometimes you need a bigger pool, to find the right one.

I do because I am disabled, and at 65, im too old to go clubbing and to places where younger people can meet up. There isnt anywhere that people my age or with my problems can go, hence the dating sites!

I think that where once there was some stigma attached to people using internet dating, these days a lot of people using them are professionals who don't have time to 'get out there'.
Infact, research shows that people who talk first online have longer lasting relationships because they establish beforehand whether they are suitable. Often when we meet someone in a club, they turn out to be very different when in a normal everyday setting. Of course there are dangers, but life is full of risks. You could date someone and they might turn out to have lied to you about their age, even their name. Trust me, I know people this has happened to!
Internet dating sites appeal to people who don't have time to go out to bars, or for people who don't neccessarily have the time for time wasters, who they will date once and then realise they are completely unsuitable.
I think there's a difference. To those people dating people in other countries, as in chatting online and then 'falling in love' but never having met, I think that isn't very mature, the relationship isn't real.
Talking first, then meeting, and then falling in love, is much better.
